• ABSENCE/TARDY REPORTING POLICIES AND PROCEDURES 2024/25

    LEAVING SCHOOL EARLY

Please make every effort to schedule doctor/dentist/orthodontic appointments and travel plans outside of school hours.

If early pick up is unavoidable, please make every effort to check your child out between classes or before lunch/recess to avoid classroom disruption.

      • Please email hallabsentee@lcmschools.org before 8:30am and/or send your child with a written note the day of the early dismissal

      • Please make every effort to pick up your child during passing periods as it is very disruptive to retrieve students during class time

      • Please have your child come to the front office BEFORE school starts the day your child will be leaving early where we will provide an ‘Early Dismissal Slip’ so your child can leave school/class early (again, please make every effort to pick your child up during passing period)

      • Your child will show their Teacher the Slip and report to the front office at the time recorded on the Slip

      • Your child will provide the Slip to office staff for recording purposes and will wait to be signed out by the parent/guardian

      • Parent/guardian please meet your child in the front office to sign your child out on the ‘HALL STUDENT RELEASE’ form

      • If/when returning to school, your child must report to the front office to receive a ‘Class Admit Slip’ so your child’s return can be recorded even if it’s during passing periods (in case of an emergency, we would not know to look for your child if they aren’t signed back in to school)

    •

**Please note, delays getting your student with drop-in and last minute requests for early dismissal is likely, especially the last period of the day so it is imperative that the above procedure be followed.

IF a student is walking or biking home without an adult, we need written authorization (email or signed note) from a parent/guardian.

Please remind your child NOT to park in the locked bike area as the gate is locked during school hours.

    TARDY POLICY

If your child arrives late to school or returns from an absence during school hours, your child must go to the front office to get a ‘Class Admit Slip’.

      • Every four (4) unexcused tardies will result in one or more of the following:

        • Automatic detention

          • Detentions are scheduled on Thursdays from 3:10 - 3:40pm

        • Truancy notification

        • Mandatory parent conferences.

The only excused reasons for being absent or tardy are illness (not for tardies), medical appointments, death in the immediate family, religious observances and accidents
    .

    REPORTING ABSENCES

It is important that every student is accounted for on a daily basis. Please report your child's absence prior to 8:30 a.m. on the day of their absence. Automated email and phone messages are generated from our attendance system. You will get a call and email if your child is marked absent in his/her first class of the day and we do not hear from you by 8:30 a.m.

You may report your child's absence in one of the following ways:

      • Email (preferred): Email your student's name, grade and reason for the absence to hallabsentee@lcmschools.org by 8am the day of the absence

        • Please include any symptoms of illness

      • Phone: Call the absentee line at (415) 927-6956 and state your child's name, grade, and the reason for their absence.

      • Please include any symptoms of illness

If your child has the following symptoms of illness: fever, coughing, sore throat, body aches, chills, fatigue, vomiting or diarrhea, please keep your child home 24 hours after the symptoms resolve without medication. For specific guidance about testing and quarantine requirements, see Covid-19 Attendance Policies below.

    ABSENCE POLICY

Absences without a verified excuse will be considered unverified until cleared through the office.

    • The only excused reasons for being absent or tardy are:

      • Illness

      • Medical appointments

      • Death in the immediate family

      • Religious observances

      • Accidents

All other absences and tardies will be considered unexcused.

Please do not have your child miss school because of a trip or vacation.

Absences and tardiness due to travel are unexcused and cause financial losses to district attendance funding.
