LCMSD COVID-19 Update of 8.26.20

Dear LCMSD Community,

I hope this reaches you safe and well.

Thank you for a successful start of school! We want to extend our deep appreciation to students, staff, and parents for their flexibility during these unique times. Below are COVID-19 updates:

Back to School Requirements and Recommendations

Attached you will find this resource from Dr. Lisa Santora, Marin County Department of Public Health.

8.25.20 CDPH Cohort Guidance

The California Department of Public Health issued guidance for small cohorts along with FAQs related to the guidance. Here is the press release as well. We are examining these new guidelines and what they mean for our district. Additionally, we will receive an update on this guidance from Marin County Public Health the week of August 31, 2020. Stay tuned!

LCMSD is in the research phase regarding the waiver process. The waiver, if approved by public health, allows districts to bring eligible grades (TK-6) on campus for in-person learning prior to being off of the California COVID Watch List.  Some school districts might apply to bring all eligible grades on campus, while others might apply for certain grades, such as K-2. Since we knew distance learning was the model that we were going to start the year with, our focus has been on building and supporting a robust distance learning program (with our other models also clearly defined). After our waiver research phase, we will send out a communication as to whether or not LCMSD will pursue a waiver. Should we recommend engaging in the waiver process, we will need to hold stakeholder consultation sessions (parents, staff, and community) and a timeline for those events will accompany our communication. Thank you for your patience as we evaluate the waiver opportunity.

Take care,

Brett Geithman, Ed.D.
