Dear LCMSD Community,
Today leaders from the City of Larkspur, Town of Corte Madera, LCMSD, Central Marin Police Authority, and Moms Demand Action gathered with parents and community members in Town Park to discuss the importance of preventing gun violence. Led by Ariana Johar, this event provided a venue for leaders to share the importance of keeping our community safe and to discuss ways to continue to take action.
Here is the resolution that the LCMSD Board of Trustees passed on May 17, 2023 identifying today, June 2, 2023 as Gun Violence Awareness Day. On June 7, 2023 the City of Larkspur will be discussing a similar resolution during their regularly scheduled meeting. I plan on making a statement regarding the importance of school violence prevention.
Additionally, LCMSD has formed a School Safety Task Force that consists of 19 members, including our site principals, parents from each school, Central Marin Police Authority, and myself. Our goal as we head into the summer is to partner with a research firm, funded by our STOP Grant, to identify best practices that are currently being implemented, as well as recommendations to further advance our safety practices. We will keep you informed of our progress.
On behalf of LCMSD, thank you Ariana Johar for organizing this event. School violence prevention takes every one of us. Please know how much we appreciate your support whether you were able to make today’s event or not.
Thank you,
Dr. Brett Geithman
Superintendent
