Dear LCMSD Community,
As a District, we understand how disturbing and upsetting recent news regarding Israel and Hamas may be for our students, families, and staff members. The loss of life and destruction is difficult to comprehend and some in our community may be mourning the loss of family and friends. Our hearts are with the families and children affected by these events - every child deserves a childhood free from violence.
It can be challenging to have difficult conversations with our youth, particularly when we ourselves are feeling a myriad of emotions. We have provided a list of resources at the bottom of this message.
It has also come to our attention that social media platforms are being used to share violent and horrific videos and images. Very often, these images are displayed without warning to the viewer. We ask that caregivers speak with their children about how to avoid such posts and where they can get support if they do see such violent imagery.
Additionally, if you hear of or witness any racist, antisemitic, anti-muslim or other language or actions that target a specific group based on identity or perceived identity, or if you have a concern about student or staff safety, please let us know by contacting your school's principal, using the anonymous tip line, or reaching out to me.
We appreciate your partnership and care for one another's children.
Dr. Brett Geithman Superintendent
