Announcement from SPARK Board of Directors

Dear LCMSD Community,

It is with a mix of sadness and gratitude that the SPARK Board of Directors announces Sara Ryba’s departure as Executive Director, effective June 14, 2024. The Board would like to offer our sincere congratulations and best wishes to Sara on this next step in her career. Sara has made an immense contribution to SPARK and has been central to all we have achieved, and while we will miss her and her inspiring leadership, we wish her the best of luck in her new endeavor as the Director of Development for Bridge the Gap. We have worked closely with Sara and have seen first hand her enthusiasm, hard work, and commitment to our mission. As a leader, she has helped take us through a period of incredible growth and change and we want to thank her for her 10+ years of dedicated service, which involved many significant accomplishments, including:

  • Raising over $15 million cumulatively to directly support the foundation

  • Increasing Annual Giving participation from 45% of district families in 2013 to consistently being at or above 70% since 2019

  • Completing and implementing the foundation’s first strategic plan

  • Succeeding in maintaining the foundation’s financial commitment to the District during and following Covid

Thanks to Sara's leadership and the hard work of our amazing staff and dedicated volunteers, SPARK is stronger than ever and we are well-positioned to move forward. The Board of Directors has begun a search for the next Executive Director (you can see the job description
HERE) and we are working closely with Sara and the rest of the SPARK staff to ensure a smooth transition. We appreciate and welcome your support as we take these next steps.

Please join us in thanking Sara for her service to SPARK and her commitment to the LCMSD community and please see below for her letter to the community.

With Gratitude,

A Message from Our Executive Director

Dear Larkspur-Corte Madera School District Families, Teachers and Staff,

I write to you today to inform you of my resignation as the Executive Director for SPARK. It has been an honor and a privilege to support our schools and community for over 10 years. In addition to being a role that has been very fulfilling for me professionally, it has been a position that has had deep personal meaning to me, as this is where my own children were raised and educated.

With a strong leadership team, a newly implemented strategic plan and a dedicated parent community consistently committed to supporting SPARK through both volunteerism and donations, it is time for me to transition to the next stage in my career.

My passion for SPARK and its mission to provide critical funding for every student in the Larkspur-Corte Madera School District remains strong and I am committed to ensuring a smooth transition to new leadership. While my tenure will end in June I have informed the SPARK Board that I will be available to help the transition as needed. The SPARK Board of Directors has created a hiring committee and as noted above, they are now accepting applications for the position.

The opportunity to be the first Executive Director for this amazing organization that consistently provides funding to enrich the lives of children gives me a great sense of pride. It has been a privilege to work in this capacity and I don’t believe I can ever fully express my gratitude to have had the great honor of serving in this role. SPARK’s success though is due to the long term efforts of a highly committed Board of Directors; an incredibly professional, talented and dedicated staff; and hundreds of generous donors like YOU who believe so strongly in our mission to provide access to robust programs and experiences to all LCSMD students, providing the educational opportunities they deserve.

I will leave this job with a profound sense of gratitude for the wise counsel and supportive leadership of the SPARK Board members and volunteers I have served with, many of whom I have the great fortune to now call friends.

It’s impossible to acknowledge everyone that has played a meaningful role in my tenure with SPARK, but I want to give special thanks to the LCMSD Administrative team and all the staff and teachers who make this District such a special place to learn and grow. I also want to express my appreciation for PTO/A leaders past and present for their many years of collaboration and support to ensure all of our parent organizations continue to succeed and thrive. And finally, a heartfelt thanks to my fellow staff members for your professionalism, loyalty, and friendship. It has been an honor working beside you!

I will be seeing and celebrating with many of you at the Sparkle & Shine Gala in May and look forward to working with all involved to ensure a smooth transition for SPARK. In the meantime, if you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out.

With deepest gratitude,

Sara Ryba
