Exciting SPARK Announcement ...

SPARK Hires New Executive Director

Announcement from SPARK Board of Directors

The SPARK Board of Directors is thrilled to announce the appointment of Jaime Heaps as Executive Director. She will begin her position effective June 1 with transition support through June 15 from longtime Executive Director Sara Ryba, who announced her departure earlier this year.

“As a member of the SPARK board, I’ve been proud to be part of the work creating and beginning to execute the SPARK strategic plan,” said Heaps. I look forward to tackling the critical work ahead - work that would not be possible without the strong foundation envisioned and built by the leadership before me and all the people who are part of this exceptionally talented group of staff and volunteers, and of course, our community. Together, we can continue to raise the funds required for all LCMSD students to receive a well-rounded education.”

Outgoing Executive Director Ryba, who served in the position for the last decade, believes Heaps will propel SPARK in the right direction. “Jaime has been a dedicated supporter of the Foundation and an active member of the SPARK Board of Directors and our community,” said Ryba. “I look forward to seeing her leadership in action as she guides SPARK into the future.”

Heaps brings extensive non-profit and volunteer experience to this important role and is known for her willingness to support projects large and small with SPARK, PTO and the Larkspur-Corte Madera School District always with the goal of providing positive community impact. She has served on the SPARK Board of Directors for the past three years as Cove Vice President and has been an active participant in the creation and execution of the newly implemented strategic plan and updated bylaws. In 2022, Heaps acted as treasurer for the successful campaign to pass the Measure E Parcel Tax providing $4 million annually to LCMSD and currently serves on the Citizens Oversight Committee. She has also been an active supporter of the Cove PTO for the past six years.

In addition to her highly relevant volunteer work, Heaps has been involved in education for 17 years as the Co-Founder and Executive Director of Sage Educators. Heaps is a graduate of Virginia Tech and also earned an MA from University of Amsterdam. She and her husband William, have two children, Josie and Will, in the Larkspur-Corte Madera School District.

“After an extensive search, Jaime's passion for a well-rounded education as well as her extensive previous experience in leadership roles on the SPARK board, made it clear that she is the perfect fit for this role,” said Jenn Simon, SPARK Board member. “On behalf of the entire Board of Directors, we are absolutely thrilled that she will help lead our foundation into our next phase of growth.”
