LCMSD Update: NBC revises 8/30 Outbreak Story
Dear LCMSD Community,
Hall Middle School, Cove School, and Neil Cummins were not associated with the outbreak reported in the August 27, 2021 CDC publication.
This morning NBC ran a story on an outbreak that occurred in Marin last May. Footage from Hall Middle School was used as NBC ran voiceover describing the outbreak at a “Marin school.” The use of video from Hall Middle in association with this story was completely inaccurate as we have been amongst the safest school districts without a single classroom-based transmission. The footage they reused was from a celebratory piece NBC ran on October 6, 2020, when we were one of the first schools to open. We immediately contacted NBC, who has since pulled the story and will be issuing a retraction later today.
LCMSD has been cited as an exemplar in COVID safety and instructional response plans. Here are some quick facts about LCMSD’s COVID safety:
- 140/180 days of school were in person during the 2020-21 school year
- LCMSD’s 2020-21 in person instructional minutes were higher than any secondary school in the county and at the top of the pack for elementary
- 7 cohorts were closed in 2020-21, with zero classroom-based transmissions
- 1 case has been reported for 2021-22, with zero classroom-based transmissions
- 97.6% of staff are fully vaccinated
- 82.4% of 7th and 8th graders are fully vaccinated
