Dear LCMSD Community, Thank you for your ongoing support in so many ways! From the SPARK Gala to chaperoning for Outdoor Education - our schools are great places to learn and grow because of you, our entire parent, teacher, and staff learning community. Below are today’s LCMSD updates. Dr. Brett Geithman Board Updates On April 20 the Board met to celebrate the 2022 Golden Bell Awardees. Additionally, the Board was provided with an Equity update, COVID-19 update, and reviewed the LCAP student, parent, and staff survey results. All agendas can be found here. There was a special closed session last night and the next regularly scheduled meeting is on May 18 at 6:00 in the Hall Library. Outdoor Education A huge thank you to the 5th grade teachers, many Hall teachers, all principals, our health department, and business services department for making outdoor education possible this year. Every year our 5th graders head to Nature Bridge for an incredible hands-on science experience. Last year, our students were unable to attend due to COVID; however, we worked with our teachers, staff, and Nature Bridge to make this opportunity possible for our current 5th and 6th graders. Over the past two weeks we’ve had Cove and Neil Cummins students attend camp and this week Hall 6th graders will attend. We are so grateful to all who have made camp possible - these are experiences students will look back on with very fond memories! COVID Masking Updates During the April 20 COVID Update, I shared Marin County Public Health’s recent updates to masking:
Currently, Marin is in the substantial / moderate range; therefore, we are shifting from strongly recommending a mask to consider wearing one. Marin County Gun BuyBack event – June 4, 2022 Help reduce the risk of suicide, accidental discharge, domestic violence and guns getting into the wrong hands. Guns continue to proliferate in Marin County and can be used in homicides, crimes and suicide. The 2020 Marin County Civil Grand Jury estimated that there are 100,000 firearms in Marin homes and vehicles. As a community, we want to do all that we can to provide the opportunity to remove unwanted guns from our homes. One of those actions is a Gun Buyback event which is being co-organized by Marin County DA’s office, Marin County Sheriff, San Rafael Police Department and San Rafael Mayor Kate Colin and Fairfax Mayor Stephanie Hellman. The event serves all of Marin County and will be held on June 4, 2022, 9:00 AM – 1pm outside the Marin County Sheriff's office. Gun Buyback events work by enabling participants to bring in functional firearms and receive cash in exchange. The funding that supports the event comes from government, business, education, foundations, hospitals and individuals. Interested community members may donate to the Gun BuyBack Fund to help to make our community even safer. The City of San Rafael is managing the fund and to participate, please send checks to: City of San Rafael, 1400 Fifth Street, Attn: Finance Rm 204, San Rafael 94901. Specify that the donation is for “Gun BuyBack”. Yes, donations are tax deductible (City EIN number is 94-6000424) and with the participation of many people in our community, we will raise enough funds to have a successful event.
