Principal Message

Neil Cummins will be participating in the 8th Annual Global School Play Day (#GSPD2023) on Wednesday, February 1. Grade levels are collaborating to identify which part of the day they will participate in these activities. Students will engage in play with toys that do NOT require batteries or electricity. No devices. Teachers/ Adults don't organize anything for students, don't tell students how to play with the toys/games, and don't interfere with students unless they see something unsafe. More and more research underscores the critical importance of play in the emotional, social, intellectual and physical development of children - including this study from 2018 from the American Association of Pediatrics. Over a million kids will participate in 72 countries! At Neil Cummins, we believe in the core values of #GSPD2023 - student-directed, unstructured play is beneficial to development!

Board Updates: On Tuesday, Februgary 13 the Board has scheduled their annual Budget Study Session at 4:00 in the Hall Library. Following the Study Session will be their regularly scheduled meeting at 6:00. The Local Control and Accountability Plan (LCAP) Mid-Year Update will be presented to the Board. Both the Study Session and meeting will be live streamed via Zoom (link; passcode - lcmsd). Please know, public comments will only be taken by in person attendees; public comments via Zoom will not be available. We hope to see you there.

Sincerely,

Kyle Shaw
