Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Cove’s Annual Tinker Day- Wednesday

Cove has 4 Guiding Principles- Hands on Learning, Social Emotional Growth, Creativity and Community. Tinker Day brings all four of them together! Students explore freely to expand creativity and learn STEAM (Science, Tech, Engineering, Art and Music) in a hands-on way. They persist through challenges, work on some projects alone and others as a group, and learn about themselves (all social emotional learning) along the way. Tinker Day is only possible through the support of our fabulous Cove community!

Here’s how you can help:

AI for Educators

Anastasia Robbins (Cove 5th grade teacher) and I have been involved in a cutting edge cohort of educators exploring the use of AI in education. Facilitated by Transcend, funded by Silicon Schools Fund and educated by aiEDU, this cohort learned about AI through exploration, and then developed and carried out research projects to share at a “demo day” last week at the Google community space in San Francisco. While we are not quite ready to introduce student facing AI tools (other than some adaptive online assessments), teachers are starting to explore tools to allow for more differentiation, curriculum development and efficiency. Whether we like it or not, our world is filled with AI, and we must learn to harness it and begin to think about how we can teach our children this new form of literacy in an age appropriate way—so that they are empowered by it rather than victims of it. Congratulations to Ms. Robbins for completing this cohort and presenting her project about scoring student writing!

Sincerely,

Michelle Walker, Principal
