PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

Thank you to the 60+ Cove families that responded to the LCMSD Annual Parent Survey in March. The goals of this survey were to understand how parents, students and staff are experiencing Cove, to determine how we are progressing toward our school and district goals and to help The Cove continue to improve.

A summary of Cove results can be found hereHere are the LCAP Survey Results District Summary that was presented at the Board meeting on 4/24. I am happy to share that some of the feedback aligns with areas that we are already acting on as a school and district. These include revising our reading instruction and curriculum to align with the science of reading, hiring additional math and reading intervention personnel for the next 2 years to address gaps that developed during Covid, adding musical theater using prop 28 funding, and improving campus safety through the guidance of our district Safety Task Force. I will be working closely with our staff and leadership teams to improve parent satisfaction with their children’s growth, specifically in the area of academics (only 65% reported they are satisfied) and also in the areas of creativity (73% satisfied) and social emotional development (76% satisfied).

Please know that the principal and Site Council read your comments and carefully review results with relevant parties to ensure that we are continuously improving the student and family experience at Cove!

Thank you to all who participated in this survey.

Sincerely,

Michelle Walker, Principal

Local author Shannon Short inspired our kindergarten through second grade Cove Coyotes during Friday’s assembly. She taught them about the power of their brains and how they can use positive thoughts to become stronger and more successful at things that are hard for them!

National Bike To School Day | Wednesday, May 8

Our Goal: NO cars in the loop on Wednesday, May 8…Can we do it? Our Safe Routes to School parent volunteers, David Evans and Catherine Wold, have organized ways for everyone to participate - whether you live close or far!

  • Live in Larkspur? Meet Mrs. Walker for the bike train at the footbridge behind Redwood (near Andrew’s Camp) at 7:35am.

  • Live in Corte Madera? Meet Mrs. Walker’s bike train and Safe Routes parent volunteers to bike, scoot or walk from The Cove neighborhood. Meet at 7:50am at the intersection of Spindrift and Seawolf (~ 29 Spindrift to avoid filling up the intersection).

  • Live far away? Park and join us at Spindrift and Seawolf (see above).

Any child who travels in a “green way” to school (including the bus!) will receive a prize at our welcome table under the shade structure on the blacktop! Be sure to check in and get your hand stamped.

We will also be raffling off some amazing prizes during Cove in Motion that day!

We would love to have all Cove Coyotes participate!! Let's fill up the sidewalks and bike racks as much as possible. Thank you for teaching your child the importance of green travel --- it's a lifelong lesson!

DISTRICT NEWS

Superintendent Coffee Chat May 2 at 8:30-9:30 at Neil Cummins

Coffee chats are a great venue for parents to learn more about our schools and ask a range of questions. Some of these are topic-based and some are open-ended. The May 2 chat will be focused on gathering feedback on the draft goals (LCAP) for 2024-25. This is our core work and will guide program and budget decisions. Additionally, at the end of the chat we will leave time to answer any questions on any topic. The coffee chat will be at Neil Cummins, but all district parents are encouraged to attend.

We Are One: Social Justice Lesson #3

Social Justice Lesson #3 will be taught district-wide on April 30, 2024. Copies are available in each school’s main office for parents to view. Thank you for supporting this important work!
