PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

Colegio Williams de Cuernavaca at The Cove School

Dear Cove School Families,

I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving break. I am thrilled to share some reflections on our recent collaboration with the Williams School Exchange Program, which brought an incredible opportunity for cultural exchange, learning, and community building to our 2nd and 4th grade classrooms.

About the Program
The exchange program is a collaboration between The Cove School and Colegio Williams de Cuernavaca in Cuernavaca, Mexico, an IB (International Baccalaureate) school with values that closely align with our own. This program fosters cultural appreciation, global connections, and project-based learning.

Over the past week, four teachers from Colegio Williams de Cuernavaca joined us at Cove to lead immersive, project-based learning units with our 2nd and 4th graders. These units emphasized cultural awareness, language skills, and creativity, incorporating themes like folk stories, local traditions, and cultural games. The experience culminated in a vibrant final presentation on November 21, where students joyfully shared their learning with families through dance, Spanish vocabulary, and Mexican games.

In the spring, some of our own Cove teachers will travel to Cuernavaca to bring a similar experience to Colegio Williams students, continuing this inspiring exchange.

Special Thanks
This program would not have been possible without the support and contributions of many individuals and groups. I would like to extend my heartfelt gratitude to:

  • Mr. Eldredge, for fostering the connection with Colegio Williams de Cuernavaca and initiating this wonderful partnership.

  • Our 2nd and 4th grade teachers, for their flexibility and openness to new opportunities for their classrooms.

  • Catherine Wold, for her meticulous organization and dedication to ensuring the success of this exchange.

  • Our PTO, for their financial support and generous hospitality in welcoming and supporting the visiting teachers.

  • Our host families, for opening their homes and providing warm and welcoming environments for our guest teachers.

Your efforts have created meaningful experiences for our students and strengthened our global connections.

Looking Ahead
This program is more than an educational exchange; it is a bridge to understanding, inclusion, and friendship at a time when such connections are more important than ever. I look forward to continuing this collaboration with Colegio Williams and seeing the lasting impact it has on our students and community.

Thank you for supporting this extraordinary initiative. Together, we are creating a school community that values diversity, connection, and lifelong learning.

Warm regards,

Michelle Walker

Holiday Store

The Cove School Holiday Store returns on Friday, December 13th. Prepare to be delighted by the gifts chosen by your children from the new and gently-used “inventory” donated by the Cove community as we transform The Cove Gallery into a “Holiday Store.” Students love shopping for important people in their lives at this special annual event. This opportunity instills a spirit of giving in our children. Students bring in $2 and get to shop for 2 gifts. Our awesome volunteers (we need YOU!) wrap the gifts and the students bring them home to you!

We need your help to make this happen!

  • DONATE by Thursday December 12th - Bring items to the Cove Gallery beginning Monday December 2nd. Treasures in high demand include: gift bags of all sizes (no wrapping paper, please!), costume jewelry and women’s accessories, hobby supplies, holiday-themed decor, housewares, cookbooks, DVDs, and anything for men! We cannot take used clothing without tags, dirty or broken items, toys, or stuffed animals.

  • VOLUNTEER for store set-up on Thursday December 12th and for shopping assistance and gift wrapping on Friday, December 13th. Please sign up here

Green Schoolyards

We’re excited to invite you to a fun and collaborative brainstorming and vision session aimed at transforming our schoolyard into a more lively and nature-filled space for our children. As part of our ongoing efforts to make our school a more inclusive and engaging space, we want to reimagine the outdoor area with more greenery, natural play elements, and creative spaces for our students to discover, learn, and grow. This is where YOU come in! We believe that the best ideas come from our community, so we’re inviting you—whether you're a parent, teacher, or just someone passionate about making our school a better place—to join us for a fun, hands-on brainstorming session. Let’s work together to design a schoolyard that sparks creativity, fosters play, and brings nature right to our doorstep. Join us Thursday December 5th from 6:30-8:30pm in the Cove Library. RSVP on Parent Square or to thecoveschoolgarden@gmail.com. More information can be found here.
