Course Description
8th grade language arts focuses on developing students’ reading, writing, critical thinking, speaking and listening skills to prepare students to do the kind of work that will be expected of them in high school. The curriculum is integrated thematically with the social studies curriculum and each unit is focused on a specific theme that poses fundamental questions for student inquiry. Texts include a wide variety of fiction and non-fiction to deepen student understanding of those themes in a multi-faceted way. Students practice and hone opinion/argument, narrative and expository writing with an emphasis on proper structure and strong language use.
