• TEACHING CREDENTIALS

Certificate Employees of the Larkspur-Corte Madera School District must maintain their credentials in good standing. Please calendar your expirations and contact HR if you need help with your credential. Important note: Payroll is prohibited by law from paying for teaching hours completed without proper credentials.

The most common credentialing issues are listed below.

    Assignments

If you have an assignment for which you are not properly credentialed, or teach an elective outside the area of your credential, contact Human Resources before the start of your assignment, every year. Special education case loads must match credential authorizations.

    Credential Renewal

If your credential is expiring and you have not yet renewed successfully, you must apply for a Temporary County Certificate (TCC) via Human Resources.

To renew or apply for credentials, visit http://www.ctc.ca.gov.

Please review this link for instructions:  CTC online renewal instruction

Copies of any new credential, renewed credential, or a change to a credential must be sent to Human Resources and to MCOE.

    Clear Credentials
expire every five years and can be renewed easily online.

    Preliminary Credentials
often require additional coursework in order to clear.  BTSA is a two year program required for all new teachers.  Out of state teachers may require paperwork from previous employers in order to receive a waiver on BTSA renewal requirement. Your university credentials analyst can guide you, or the MCOE Credentials Analyst is an excellent resource.  Clearing a preliminary credential can be a lengthy process.  Preparation should begin well in advance of the expiration.

    English Learner Authorization (ELA)
is required for every teaching assignment in the Larkspur-Corte Madera School District. If you have ELA, you do not need to read any further.

Employees can qualify for ELA by coursework or by taking the CTEL exam.  Passing the coursework or CTEL exam does not mean that you have ELA. You must submit an application to the CTC to have this certification added to your credentials. The preparation for the CTEL exam is 6 months prior to the exam and the exam is given twice a year. It is imperative that this process be started as soon as possible in order to meet the timelines. No teacher will advance towards tenure without ELA. ELA is a condition of employment.
